This term’s Creative Homework topic is ‘Commonwealth’

What is the Commonwealth?

Fifty-three countries are members of The Commonwealth.  The countries span Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Pacific and are extremely diverse – they are amongst the world’s largest, smallest, richest and poorest countries. Thirty-one of the member countries are classified as small states – countries with a population size of 1.5million people or less.  Some of the countries which make up the Commonwealth included Canada, Australia, India, Kenya, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Jamaica.

The Queen is the Sovereign of many of the Commonwealth countries but not all of them.

The Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games is an International multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth.  The event was first held in 1930 and takes place every 4 years.  It is the third largest multi-sport event in the World.  Apart from Olympic sports the games also include some sports that are mainly played in Commonwealth countries such as lawn bowls and netball. Do you recognise any of the athletes in the photo below?
